Trades Assistant – Trailer Workshop

Cahill Transport is a growing national transport and logistics business with a history spanning 70 years. Our in-house teams work tirelessly to keep our wheels turning and we are now looking for a trades assistant with trailer experience to join us.

Reporting to the workshop supervisor and national maintenance manager, you’ll be joining a fun, friendly and supportive working team based at Laverton North, VIC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform work on various trailers- Kreuger/Vawdrey/Barker, flat top and tautliners.
  • Diagnose and repair trailers 
  • Perform preventative maintenance on trailer equipment.
  • Perform routine welding.
  • Document work orders.
  • Carry out general repairs and modifications as required.
  • Conduct servicing and maintenance.
  • Hours of work 7am-3pm / Mon-Fri (with occasional weekends).

Competencies:

Local Allocator PM Shift (NSW)

We’re on the lookout for an experienced Local Allocator to join our team within our Huntingwood, NSW site.

This is ideally suited to a highly motivated individual with the ability to lead, drive and manage our daily local operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan the local routes for following day.
  • Assign trucks, trailers and drivers.
  • Schedule work to meet the customer demand.
  • Coordinate linehaul arrivals with local departures.
  • Ensure the effective utilisation and scheduling of local fleet.
  • Supporting the warehouse/linehaul division to ensure efficient and timely loading of local freight.
  • Schedule daily manifests.
  • Allocate in a time critical manner to ensure minimum wait times for drivers.
  • Streamline processes to ensure timely dispatching of loads with a sense of urgency.
  • Communicate respectfully and build string relationships with drivers, customers and all internal team members.
  • Ensure excellent customer service with all carriers and customers.

This is an integral part of the National Commercial Team and is based at our head office, Laverton North. 

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of costing and pricing models.
  • Respond to daily pricing requests.
  • Prepare competitive rates based on modelling and market pricing intelligence.
  • Ensure rate tables are updated regularly.
  • Provide support on tender opportunities and complex pricing requests.
  • Attend to all quote requests efficiently.
  • Assist in identifying and resolving data integrity issues.
  • Prepare and provide data/rate reports for internal/external customers.

  • Operating a forklift – counterbalance
  • Picking/Packing various types of freight and labelling pallets.
  • Efficiently load / unload trucks and shipping containers.

Operations Supervisor (SA)

We are seeking an experienced Operations Supervisor to join our busy Direk, SA site. Reporting to the Regional Manager (SA/NT/WA), we’re looking for a true leader as well as team player. Someone who can demonstrate broad experience in road transport operations as well as adapt to being hand-on.

The role is responsible for efficient and safe operations, providing the operational contact for customers and offering guidance, direction and support to the team and wider business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maximize full utilization of fleet.
  • Building effective relationships with all company stakeholders (internal and external).
  • This is very much a hands-on role and will actively support the loading / preparations of the trailers.
  • Manage warehouse team.
  • Manage local operations.
  • Arranging and organising of local/interstate freight.
  • Liaise with workshop for the scheduling of equipment for servicing/maintenance.
  • Focus on meeting and exceeding customer service delivery.
  • Day to day supervision and co-ordination of warehouse team and local drivers.
  • Liaise and follow up with customers via telephone and email.
  • Always adopting a safety-first work practice.
  • 6am – 2pm / Monday – Friday.

Competencies:

  • Operations supervisor experience within interstate road transport – essential.
  • A current Forklift Licence – essential.
  • The ability to adapt to an ever changing environment.
  • Understanding of Fatigue Management legislation.
  • Sound knowledge of compliance requirements and chain of responsibility regulations.
  • An ability to work under pressure and within time constraints.

PM Transport Despatch Supervisor (VIC)

We have a national warehousing footprint of over 60,000m2 and offer inventory management, picking and order fulfilment, general and specialised floorspace and much more.

We’re seeking a PM Transport Despatch Supervisor to join our busy team in Laverton North on a full-time basis. Reporting to Victoria Warehouse Manager this is very much a hands-on role where no 2 days are the same. The key focus being freight despatch management with particular attention to load restraint and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all truck loading activity.
  • Focusing on freight distribution, freight security and freight handling care (mixed palletised freight).
  • Prioritise load planning for team members as required (team of 6-8).
  • Unloading local freight and loading linehaul (approx. 10-15 trucks per night).
  • Daily meetings with local and linehaul allocators.
  • Oversee operations across 2 warehouses (approx. 13,000m2).
  • Maintain warehouse inventory.
  • Conduct toolbox talks.
  • Administration management.
  • Hours of work – 12.30pm – 9pm / Mon – Fri.

Competencies:

  • Experience in transport and logistics industry – essential.
  • Forklift licence (LF) – essential.
  • Load restraint experience including the use of straps/angles and chains – essential.
  • Weight management/distribution experience with clear understanding of GML/CML – essential.
